Maumbury Rings and Dancing Ledge

Click here for a picture of the cover.

Two pieces inspired by the landscape of Hardy's Wessex. Maumbury Rings is in tremolo throughout, Dancing Ledge features passages of dreamy thoughtfulness, exciting rhythms and climactic percussiveness.

Reviewed by Classical Guitar magazine in July 2001: "...beautifully crafted music...a privilege to review". Click here for the full review.

Advanced technique required; both pieces are about Grade 8.
Published by Tuscany Publications of Florida in 2000.

Tuscany Publications' website is at www.tuscanyguitar.com

Their catalogue is distributed by The Theodore Presser Co., www.presser.com

Please note the important correction to a mistake in Maumbury Rings.

Scottish Suite

A suite of four pieces after the manner of Scottish folk music. The movements are: Pastoral, Hornpipe, Lament and Gig. The suite is dedicated to Ben Verdery.

Reviewed by Classical Guitar magazine in July 2001: "a superb virtuoso concert item". Click here for the full review.

Even harder than Maumbury Rings and Dancing Ledge, the overall requirement here is postGrade 8.
Published by Tuscany Publications of Florida in 2000.    There's also two small corrections to make in Scottish Suite.
Caer Meini Another folk-inspired piece, but beginning and ending peacefully. The title refers to a mountain in South West Wales from which some of the stones were taken to build Stonehenge.  About Grade 8.
Published by Mel Bay in 2001. Part of "The Contemporary Guitar - An Anthology of New Music" commissioned and edited by Stanley Yates. The pieces in the book are to be recorded by Stanley too. www.melbay.com
Two songs for voice and piano setting poems by A B 'Banjo' Paterson: "Flying Squirrels" and "Prelude".  These settings were a contribution to a project by the Dorset Composers' Network to create a programme and associated publication of settings of Paterson's verse.
The Anthology is called 'Selections from 'THE ANIMALS THAT NOAH FORGOT" and other poems'. Published by Greenhill Music.
